Torii Kiyonaga
Torri Kiyonaga, also referred to as Sekiguchi Shinsuke (the name he was born with), was an ukiyo-e artist who mainly depicted prints of women, many of which were quite risque. He was a pupil to Torii Kiyomitsu, whom he learned the basic techniques and ways of ukiyo-e art. His prints are polychromatic, meaning he used two or more colors in his prints, which is called nishiki-e . Kiyonaga formatted his prints and paintings in a unique way, with two or three panel formats called diptych and triptych. Some of Kiyonaga’s most famous works are Minami jūniko, Tōsei yūri bijin awase, and Fūzoku azuma no nishiki |
